VAWTs have a place just as HAWTs do - on mountain tops. VAWTs are best suited or commercial and industrial applications of which are many. Some of these include bridge lighting and other high-wind areas where HAWTs cannot survive. Both have their place. The worst thing is to put a turbine where there is insufficient wind. Failure (and a bad rap on turbines) is the only result. There are plenty of places manufacturers can place their turbines and look like winners.
